The real issue is over being a low pay high cost economy, at the moment we have what was memorably described over two hundred years ago as a ‘System of Universal Pauperage’ where even households on median or higher income get something largely because of sky high housing costs
I’m not even sure that’s true. Probably looks that way if you work in HB or UC but by and large people aren’t coming into the benefits systems because of high housing costs so much as being forced out through being capped, sanctioned and deducted to death.
