Very topical….more and more social tenants are refusing to pay rent and / or service charges.
So what are the HB issues?
Also what about the impact on this review. As part of the latter, are Councils asking Housing Associations about any such issues?
It might be that in some cases, the service charges are reduced or waived. HB should not then be paid or it should be returned as an OP?
It might be though that “compensation” is paid in lieu so it seems very unclear to me.
I cannot remember many examples of this in the past but then I cannot think of many previous examples where social housing was being so criticised for over charging, poor maintenance and so on. We did not see HA’s having “for profit” arms either though.
