It will depend on the transitional provisions. It is most likely that they will become assured tenancies equivalent and so will never end. A bit like a Housing Benefit claim that used to end after a year and then whoosh….continued for ever until certain conditions applied.
Which is why no-one knows what to do with student lettings. Students just leave/pay until the end of the tenancy date. But now there wont be one. So the student can stay as long as they like legally. There is no power to make them leave to make way for the next years intake. Unless they want to. Which causes issues in areas such as Council Tax exemption.
