Either way that is £500 per year approx for something that cost very little. The mark up is massive even if they go for the most expensive. Mind you a managing agent recently charged £360 to change a £2 lightbulb. This is where the huge profits are made. So is it worth challenging? If you think it is then reduce the amount allowed. £200 per year perhaps? That seems very generous to me. That is a decision for you of course…as the decision maker. I suspect the landlord has no idea of the true cost. Probably just puts down a figure out of the air.
