In terms of fee paid versus salaried it’s really about you knowing your local judges and who is who. Not easy if you don’t do a lot of appeals and made harder by telephone hearings often being run by out of area judges. Confused further by the interesting approach to retirement for salaried judges whereby they don’t really retire but become fee paid and yet retain the privileges of being salaried such as being trusted to set aside their own work etc.
Easiest way is to sometimes just ring up your local tribunal centre and ask. May or not get you an answer but nothing is lost in the asking.
