“UC is designed to be assessed by machine as far as possible”

Yes indeed but what I want to know is why UC is costing so much money to administer. I remember Ian Duncan Smith standing up in Parliament (to cheers) announcing this new system would save an absolute fortune. All these years later…nope.

Of course UC has drawn a huge number of people into ‘Conditionality’ and of course the requirement for self employed workers to report their income monthly. Then there are the people whose pay date can clash with their UP award period so if they are paid early that has to be adjusted manually.

Then a little birdy told me that there are not enough staff to look at Journal entries so the only queries dealt with are phone ones so thats never going to end well.

Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen and six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery. The blossom is blighted, the leaf is withered, the god of day goes down upon the dreary scene, and—and in short you are for ever floored.
