I agree with Lorraine when income is paid in advance. But when its paid in arrears (like most benefits and salaries) there can be a problem. If you receive 2 weeks Incapacity Benefit today, it would be counted as income for 06/04/09-19/04/09 (assuming its paid Monday – Sunday) then as capital from 20/04/09. I don’t think you can ignore it as capital until the next payment date.
Its quite diffucult – if you were to advise the claimant of the capital limit, she might decide to deprive herself of sopme money and then you might have notional income to take into account.
I think, if you know for a fact that capital will exceed £16K from next week, you will need to make a superseeding decision.
