Has anyone come across Islamic Theology studies as an approved education course? Trying to assist a claimant with an 18 year old son who is studying this course as a boarder at a Muslim Trust (Charity). We are trying to establish if this would count as approved education and therefore the child would still be child benefit eligible. Wondering if anyone has seen this type of course before and could offer any insights?

I would imagine, alongside some online research of your own, that the Trust would be able to assist with this – they may or may not be ‘approved’ but they should be able to demonstrate a link to an exam board/OFSTED etc if they have one. (This will also be important to understand if it is higher/further education.) Unless they are a brand new organisation, they are likely to be well versed on such questions! Organisations also tend to state any official/regulatory status on their websites (or appear on official listings). Is there a ‘prospectus’ viewable?

There are certainly approved courses in Islamic Theology so it will depend on the particular course/provider.
