GuestOur LA has recently equiped every staff member in our HB department with 2 monitor screens on every desk, the idea is this will save time time by having 2 programs on display at once, as opposed to clicking on the toolbar.
Do any other LA’s use 2 screens and if so have they experienced any problems or advantages of this practice. To me it seems to be an unnecessary expense. 😕November 24, 2005 at 1:08 pm #4053Anonymous
GuestWe have recently installed two screens for all our HB assessors and CTax staff to allow them to run our HB/Ctax systems alongside the DIPS system. Although it met with disapproval at first (mainly due to space), the majority of our staff now find it extremely beneficial. it has helped reduce errors and reduce the amount of time it takes for them to process work as they are no longer flicking between two systems.

GuestFair enough, I guess you can’t really assess something until you see it working, did you have any problems with DSE issues e.g. eye strain, work station positioning etc.?
Ours have now been installed but we aren’t allowed to use them until they have assessed the health and safety implications, this is not expected to be completed until after January!November 24, 2005 at 2:29 pm #4055Anonymous
GuestOur Health and Safety team were involved and deemed it to be safe. The only real issue was in respect of workspace as our staff have relatively small desks.

ParticipantWould 2 screens really be worth the expense?
Sounds more likley to give me a headache than make me more productive!
I would imagine the money would be better spent on training.
Does anyone who actually uses two screens have anything to say about them?? 🙄

GuestWe have dual 17inch flat screens for all HB assessors. This is used in conjunction with DIP. The HB application is shown on one screen, and the DIP system on the other. This enables assessors to display amost full A4 images of the documents on the screens.
If they didnt use dual screens, there would be more clicking and moving of windows to toggle between the information on DIP and assessing the claim on the core application.
You just have to make sure that everyone takes breaks from the screen for H&S reasons.

GuestOur dual screens have been in place a few weeks now, and we are running one 20″ screen for the DIPs system and one 17″ screen for the HB/CTB system. The majority of dissenters have now come around to the benefits of the new screens. As Mark has said, it has resulted in a need to allow more frequent breaks from their machines. However, I strongly believe the change has resulted in an upturn in productivity.

Guest20 inch screens! surely with a screen that big you could get the programs to remain open independantly on one screen!
We’ve had to have brand new computers installed, undoubtedly to cope with the new screens. Looking forward to seeing the practicalities of the new setup, although looks like it will be a while til they are deemed safe. 🙄November 30, 2005 at 3:39 pm #4060Mikeb2
Participant[quote:30e2d3cd1a] it has resulted in a need to allow more frequent breaks [/quote:30e2d3cd1a]
That sounds counterproductive to me.
Why do they have to have more breaks? What were the health and safety problems? 😕
I am still not convinced that a few clicks and toggles saved can increase productivity.
Good luck with the dual screens though. 😀

GuestI must admit the 20″ screens may be a little over the top, but the thinking behind it was to try to display the DIPs images as clear as possible to help reduce errors, whilst the other applications remain on the 17″ screens.

ParticipantLet’s all have another 2 screens each. I’m off to order the factor 98 sunblock on my way to a house a bit higher above sea level, as long as that new power station doesn’t get there first.
