Asylum seeking children

    Are unaccompanied asylum seeking children who are granted discretionary leave to remain entitled to Housing Benefit?

    anyone help with this?

    Their immigration status does not stop them from getting HB, put it that way. Discretionary Leave for asylum-seeking children does not carry any public funds conditions.

    However, they are subject to all the things that would normally make you hesitate before paying HB to any child, in particular the responsibilty of the social services authority to care for them if they are “lost, orphaned or abandoned”. It is only when they reach the age where social services says “Bye-bye, have a nice life” that HB should kick in.
