ATLAS and Tax Credit Arrears

    Our system (Academy) is not loading the arrears payments into the claim as disregarded capital – we will have to do this manually, which slows down the whole process.

    What do other LAs do with arrears of tax credits, do you input them all as capital disregarded for 52 weeks, do you ignore them, or do you put in arrears over a certain amount?



    On a practical level you should be safe enough not inputting them. If you do put them on then you’ll only have to take them off again in a years time. Once the 52 weeks are up then you would only take it into account if they still had the arrears payment as capital which I have personally never seen happen. The customer would have spent it well before the 52 weeks arrive. I’ve never come across an auditor who has queried whether we have checked that the arrears have indeed been spent.
