We were told that there are no time limits for backdating for working age claims, however, reg 112 in the default scheme refers to 6 months backdate.  Does 112 (2) (b) mean a backdate can be requested for a period beyond 6 months?  Thanks.

Not sure where you heard there was no backdating limit. The default scheme copies the CTB rules for working age – a six month backdating limit for a new application counted from when the backdating is applied from and subject to the usual continuous good cause condition.

There is no backdating requirement. You do not have to backdate working age claims. BUT if you have decided to follow the default scheme as your local scheme and not amend it (many LA’s have) then Chris is correct. You need to check what is in your own local scheme….
