    Question:

Is there any restriction to a British Citizen moving abroad to an EU Country and making a claim for Housing Benefit?

Claimant currently receiving HB and her income is Incapacity Benefit she has made enquiries and has been advised that Incapacity Benefit will continue as has paid enough contributions. She has now asked if Housing Benefit is payable in other EU countries

The claimant cannot receive HB for a property outside the UK – Section 130(1)(a) of the Social Security Contributions & Benefits Act 1992 restricts payment of HB to liabilities in respect of properties in the UK…or Great Britain, to be precise.

she intends moving abroad so would make a claim for hb in the country she intends to go too. Do other countries offer a simular HB scheme as ours.

I think most EU countries offer some form of State assistance with rent – certainly Germany and France do.
