The chancellor has just announced that the highest rents will be exclided from the LHA rate calculation from “October next year” I assume he means October 2010. I assume the detail will follow shortly.

not sure how this differs to the current position but he also announced a Basic bank account for all. I assume that the difficulties some people have with setting one up will be removed.

Just read the report and it does say October 2011 for the removal of the higher rates. Setting aside whether this is actually a good idea or workable solution in all areas…. Why the wait ?????????

I wonder if the delay might be to minimise the impact on existing claims come the next anniversary date?

Or there’s about to be an election and there are other matters deemed to be more pressing?

So what happens now the election has been announced…does the Civic Service move slowly on with these plans until the new Government is formed?

Or does it all come to a grinding halt whilst the Civil Servants put their feet up? 🙄

I think we are currently operating under something called the ‘caretaker convention’ which basically means that the current government can only make decsions that are required as a matter of urgency. Anything that can wait will wait until a new Government has been formed.
