List members may be interested in a web-based ‘entitlement calculator’ I have developed. It can be found at:

    http://www.entitledto.co.uk

I would be extremely grateful for any comments – particularly if you spot any inaccuracies or omissions. If you have any feedback please leave a message on the site, e-mail me or post a comment here.

Obviously haven’t tested every option but at least you have included the possibility that other people living with over 60’s may be children – this is more than The Pension Service have done on their calculator – I have emailed them about this.

Have you thought of offering this one on rightsnet?

Maybe I am being a bit negative here, but particularly in light of circular A25/2003 (which emphasised the need to refer pensioners who enquire about Pension Credit, to the helpline rather than try and deal with), I am wondering in which scenario we would use this calculator? I would not advise my Customer Service staff to try and give pensioners advice on how much they might receive, as the path to complaints lies there.

As I say I am not trying to be deliberately negative, I just think we should be cautious about any advice we give. Howevr, I would welcome your comments.

Phil – your 60-65 and 65+ categories overlap. You should have it as 60-64 and 65+.

The calculator is intended for use by the general public. If you like, it is an alternative to the calculator available at: http://www.thepensionservice.gov.uk/pensioncredit/calculator/home.asp

My reason for alerting list members to the site’s existence was principally to get feedback on it (and many thanks to those who have commented!). Its use, or not, by local authority staff is entirely up to you. In terms of your customers, if they have access to the internet you could (if you thought it appropriate) make them aware that web-based calculators are available. However, for the majority the Pension Service phone line is probably the best way of finding their entitlement, assuming they can get through that is.

I have contacted Rightsnet, as you suggest.
