    Hi,
I have a claimant who has been living in a Charitable Almshouse and thus not paying rent.
The owners have now stated that from 01.04.06 they will be charging £60.00 per week purely for maintenance of the buildings and grounds.
Is this covered by Housing Benefit? the owners have informed all the tenants that it is.
secondly, would this be referred to the RO.
    Anyone know?

Based strictly on the info given, my initial view is that the rent would be eligible within the bounds of HBR 12 (old 10). Any part of the maintenance that counts as an ineligible service charge will ineligible as normal.

If the L/L is not an RSL (i.e. registered with the Housing Corp), the rent will have to be referred.

    Regards
