    Hi

Can anybody tell me if we are able to check the CIS system for proof of a non-deps income????

As long a it’s justifiable and necessary for the claim, yes. You couldn’t use it for things like looking up a non-dep’s away address, of course.

We would request permission from the non dependent to check their details. If this was not given we would not access CIS but request the evidence from the claimant.

My authority has obtained clarification that provided it is in respect of determing the benefit claim then you can access details about non-deps.

paragraph 37 of G5-2006 gives some information on this subject.

The last instructions we received from DWP was that we had sufficient justification to access the Non-Dep’s details and therefore there was no need to request further permissions.

On the non-dependants section of our claim form, we tell the claimant:

“If they have other income, such as penions, benefits, allowances or tax credits, we need to see proof… We may contact other government departments to confirm your other adult’s income.”
