I am putting together my training material for the April Changes and I had a look at the ALG website for some tips. It mentions in their training material about proposed changes to Child Benefit. The change being that Child Benefit can be paid for children who are in fulltime ‘non advanced’ education up to the date of their 20th Birthday.
I haven’t been able to locate this info from anywhere else but this site. Please can anyone tell me if I’ve missed a circular?!? or point me in the direction of where this information originated from? Thanks 😕

There are a number of discussion on the HB/CTB pre 2006 regarding this. In essence…. the change is going ahead from April 06 – however… some bright spark forgot to look at altering the legislation for Housing and Council Tax benefits. We are advised to watch this space.

This looks to me that there is no change. A young person stops being a young person at the maximum of 19. That means that someone can still get child benefit but not be deemed as a dependant.

Am I right…. or am I having an afternoon moment of ignorance.

    Diva,
If you want confirmation, then I am happy to tell you that that’s what I think, but we are waiting for a revised bit of legislation apparantly, which someone on the other boards you refer to said they had been told by the DWP it would be through in April. 8)

    I think its done now.

Section 142 of the SSCBA is amended:

    http://www.opsi.gov.uk/ACTS/acts2005/50006–a.htm

and the prescribing is done in here:

    http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2006/20060223.htm#7

The changes to the HB/CTB regs bring it altogether ( I could be wrong).

I emailed the DWP yesterday wanting to know when we might receive a circular and asking if the Software suppliers have been made aware of this change for HB/CTB and Ctax and received the following response this morning:

“An HB/CTB circular is being issued regarding this Statutory instrument.
Software suppliers were advised of the forthcoming changes last October”.

Can’t wait for the circular – never mind the software release 😥
