Child care costs

    We have a situation where the claimant is in full time work, her partner is a full time student and they have a dependant child who they pay childcare costs for as the student partner is away from the home during the day.

    Can anyone offer advice regarding whether the costs can be disregarded? I know that students are not in the eligible group but as he is not available to look after the child………….

    Sharon. I cannot see that childcare costs can be disregarded in this case but perhaps you should advise the student partner to see whether he can claim for child care in his student income such as parents learning allowance or child care grant.
