I have a claim where the claimant is paying child care costs to a school for her 7 year old. Child Tax Credits includes the Child Care element however, I am unsure whether I can apply the cild care costs to her HB claim as the child is under 8 years.
Also, what is classed as ‘childcare approved for tax credit purposes’ and would this apply to this case.

    Hi Jane,

As long as the child is under 8 then you can’t disregard them in line with HBR28(8)(a). I’ve attached a link to what is childcare approved for tax credit purposes which is more-or-less the same as for HB/CTB but doesn’t affect your claim. Although the lower age limit is only 5 for Tax Credit purposes this doesn’t change the HB requirement that the child has to be 8 for our purposes I’m afraid.
