Good morning everyone, we are having a discussion here and I wondered if anyone can shed some light on this for me. Is it ok to access the CIS system to find out the income for a non-dep. Unfortunately the non-dep is estranged from the CL so we cannot ask for proof. The info we need is to retrospectively remove/reduce non dep duds.

If this is ok could you please point me in the direction of where I can find the info that backs this up.

Many thanks
Lisa

Would really appreciate if any one knows of the circ/guidance which specifically points to being able to use CIS for non dep info.

Many thanks

Hi Lisa

I can’t remember the exact circular but there is a section on DWP website at http://www.dwp.gov.uk/local-authority-staff/housing-benefit/claims-processing/hb-information-flows-programme/customer-information-system/cis-hints-and-tips/#datacollection

[quote:9ad03524a5][b:9ad03524a5]Data collection for non-dependants of HB/CTB claimants [/b:9ad03524a5]
LAs have asked whether they can use CIS to confirm non-dependant details. We can confirm LAs have legitimate access to this information. The Information Commissioner has confirmed the legal gateway, which allows DWP to share information about non-dependants with LAs for HB/CTB purposes.[/quote:9ad03524a5]

Hope this helps

The same advice was also in G5/2006 para 37 (though not sure if it had also appeared before then at some point)…
