Mrs and Mr make a successful claim for HB/CTB with Mrs as the claimant.

6 months later, JSA stops as Mrs has gone into hospital and new income is unknown.

A new claim form is rec’d with Mr as the clmt and Mrs as the partner.

In this situation we would not usually create a new claim with Mr as the clmt and Mrs as the partner.

    Is this correct?

We would always create a new claim for this scenario.

I agree, we would use a new claim. As long as they are both liable for rent/Ctax this shouldn’t be too much trouble.

What if in 6 months time they swap over again? Would you then revert back to the original claim number?

Yes – the claim ref should always reflect the actual clmt.

It’s a long time since I’ve used I-world (or it’s equivalents) and that used to allow a swap of clmt to ptnr, and vice-versa, under the same claim ref. Most other systems don’t allow this, so a new claim ref is needed.

Are there any overpayment and recovery implications from using the same claim number?

As long as the claimant and partner remain in the household, I can’t see any problems with recovery of overpayments. IWorld will allow the change of claimant and partner roles so I would suggest keeping the same reference number.
