Cost of Admin vs. Admin Grant

    We are looking for feedback from other LA’s on what is being spent on HB administration above the amount given by way of the admin subsidy from DWP. We are a Scottish authority and our figures for the last 3 years are:

    2008/09 – spent 32.61% (over the total admin grant)
    2009/10 – spend was 2.86% over the total admin grant
    2010/11 – spend was 2.56% over the total admin grant
    2011/12 – spend is likely to be 2.5% – 3% over

    we’ve included all additional funding during those years (for economic downturn, ESA, etc) in the ‘admin grant’figure. We get approx £300,000pa less from the LA to supplement the grant than we did in 08/09 but are still expected to meet performance targets etc. We are trying to show that despite new methods of working and adopting LEAN processess that a drop in performance is a direct result of lack of funding.

    If anyone is prepared to share their figures with us we’d be extremely grateful.


    The admin grant only covers half of our expenditure.
