Am i right to say that the £200 payment to pensioners are paid to everyone over 65. The £50 are paid to those over 70. The only group not to receive payment are those who are entitled to full CTB and do not have to pay any CT??

Circular U3/2005 sets out who is entitled to what payment. The payments are being made with the winter fuel payments and there is no check to see if full CTB is in payment.

Basically, although the Government have said it is a one-off payment for Council Tax it has nothing to do with it. It’s just another payment for pensioners.

I could be cynical and say it’s all to do with the upcoming election but I’m sure I’m wrong!!
