    Hi All

just considering when a dependent becomes a non dependent is it 18?
Is this the point when the government expects them to pay their way.

    The example is a family
    MUM
    SON 17 (CURRENTLY UNEMPLOYED)
SON 16 (SCHOOL LEAVER NOT LOOKING FOR FURTHER EDUCATION)

    ANY TIPS GREATLY WELCOME!

They currently receive 3 bed LHA, is their a better way, or do i wait until son is 18?

Peter, I understood that if over the age of 16 and not in education they are a non dep.

So I thought you would be able to do 2 bed + 1 room shared acom. Thats usually more than a 3 bed rate.

Not quite Peter!! It is 16+ and not in education although no deductions prior to 18. For the purposes of granting tenancies, however, I would resist the urge to put an U18 on as a joint tenant!

Yes I meant no deductions until 18….
