    Depatmental Growth forecasts for 2009/10 – what economy are they living in? Never mind the economy, how about the Child Benefit disregard?

    You can’t blame DWP for trying to maximise the small amount of interest available by forcing LA’s to underestimate their subsidy, thereby reducing the monthly interim payments. £2-£3m per authority adds up to a tidy sum that they won’t have to pay out until the 09/10 claims are submitted.

    I wonder if the people who thought of that will get a bonus…

    At 1% interest? Have they just shrugged their shoulders and said, we do not know you tell us.

    As the saying goes ‘look after the pennies…’

    1% on £800m is still £8m. Small beer in terms of the overall Social Security budget perhaps, but I wouldn’t turn it down!
