    Hi
This Authority is looking into the possibility of e-application forms (not just printing them of our website but submitting them electronically too).

Has anyone done this? What are the pitfalls? How did you get round not having signatures? How did you verify that they were who they said they were (e.g. for fraud purposes etc.)

Thanks for any help you may be able to give.

DWP are due to issue something on this in the next couple of months (Unless there has been a delay). It might be worth waiting for the circular.

We’re currently getting round to sorting out where our new online form should fit on our website at the moment.

Once we have all of the bits in place (some time next year) we’re going to it should be then linked into our assessment system.

if you want to talk to me about it, send me a PM.

    Signatures….

    Suggestions:

    1) Send the whole form back to the clmt (yep, by snail mail….) requesting the clmt to check the answers given and to sign the form and to provide all supporting evidence.

    2) Just send the signature page back to the clmt for signing.

    3) Don’t worry about a signature (although, in my view, this approach will be asking for trouble further down the line).

Another suggestion for a signature could be a tick box which the claimant has to click to confirm they have read and understood the declaration.

Same sort of thing as when you buy stuff like car insurance online.

Also, I am sure the DWP issued some stuff on this a while back on HBDirect or something similar. I could have dreamt that though and it is still early.

I would not bother with even trying to get the form e-enabled – the form will take ages to complete online – so long that nobody actually bothers completing them online (even though they can ‘save’ their form and return to it later to finish)

the cost of putting the form together is prohibitive, as are the costs of integration with back office systems – very few claimants have access to broadband. Its simply not worth while. Sorry to be so negative.
