I’d appreciate some views on the following scenario.

Under Equal Pay scheme some customers are to receive payments of compensation going back to 1999. The payments are to be made in two parts. The first, paid now, is for any period of employment up to April 06. The second, which will be paid in December, is for the whole of 06/07 (so if the employee leaves employment prior to December the payment will be pro-rated). Both payments should be treated as earned income and will be apportioned over the relative periods.

My dilemma is that the customer’s notification of both payments is issued now, so I know how much will be issued in December. Can I apportion the 06/07 payment now, or must I wait until December (and accept the greater o/ps that this will bring) ?

My feeling is that I have to wait, but there those nagging doubts that just won’t go away…

So, reassurance or re-training ! All opinions gratefully received.
