Hi

If an ESA main phase is awarded on a Monday, it is effective from THAT Monday. So if we need to carry out a claimant partner swap, what dates do we use for this?

The procedure our processors have been advised is to cancel the claim, and start a NEW claim on the PT now being the CL. Isnt this always going to apply this from the Monday after?

Will Northgate read this for us?

For instance if the main phase is awarded from 27/9/10, when would we end the Claimant, cancel the claim from, start the new claim? Do we cancel 26/9/10 and start the new from 27/9/10. With the ESA main phase effective from 27/9/10 will this apply from that date or will the system do it from the Monday following, 4/10/10?

Depends on the date the existing claimant withdraws their award, and the date the partner (new claimant) submits their claim. Certainly not something you would do automatically through a better-buy calculation.

so if DWP take 5 months to award the main phase, and we put it back 2 months to the start of week 14, we are contacting claimant 2 months after the main phase award.What would we do in that scenario?

If they will be better off by swapping, all you can do is advise them to withdraw the existing award and make a new claim. The effective date of the swap is determined by the date of the new claim.
