I am due to meet with our Benefits Investigations Team and brief them on the current state of affairs of LHA.

I thought it would be good to talk about some of the effects LHA could have on benefit fraud. Unfortunately I haven’t thought of many, other than:

    – A claimant may now have an incentive to say a non-dependant is living them, when they are not (in order to get an extra room rate of LHA), while before the incentive would be the opposite, i.e. to say a non-dep isn’t living with them when they were.

And that’s it for my ideas. We already pay most of our customers by BACS, so the issue of no longer finding out about a change of address when cheques are returned doesn’t effect us.

Has anyone thought of any other effects LHA or direct payments will have on fraud?

    Many thanks

    Hi there.

Just found this post and we have a Fraud briefing on Friday.

Does anyone have any more suggestions on this that I could steal?
