Is the DWP so insensitive? 😯 😯 😯

I cannot believe that the DWP are saying that the worse floods to hit the country in more than 60 years are not “exceptional circumstances”. If this is not “exceptional circumstances” – then what is?

Also that they are saying that someone who is forced to leave their home because of something beyond their control and has to stay in rented accommodation cannot claim HB if they own the property that was flooded!

Methinks that all of this will be challenged very shortly. I imagine that a tribunal or commissioner will side with the claimant.

Yeah, but that advice was given after the floods in the North.

Now we’ve had the (much more newsworthy) floods in the South, maybe their guidance will change 😉

I think that the DWP assume, rightly or wrongly, that insurance will cover most of the costs…

Even if some folk do not have contents insurance most will have buildings cover…
