i know there are limited reasons for clients to claim HB for two properties at the same time. is it possible to claim housing benefit on two pproperties at the same time. reason being present property has flooded with water and the electricity was switchedd off. tenant was give temp accommodation till repairs done. can tenant claim for both properties at the same time in this instance.

you might want to ask why they are actually paying rent on the flooded property and another property. surely if it is uninhabitable they should speak to their landlord and either be re-housed by their landlord for a temporary period but continue to pay rent on the flooded property only, pending it being habitable. or end the tenancy at the uninhabitable address and take up a new one at a habitable address and make a new hb claim.

In addition whoever insures the property may have insurance that pays for alternative accommodation whilst it is flooded.

So the possibility for fraud also exists.

THIS IS NOT ONE OF THE REASONS ACCEPTED FOR PAYMENT ON TWO HOMES AS PROVIDED BY REG 5 OF HOUSING BENEFIT(GEN) REG 1987.
THE CLAIMANT SHOULD NOT EVEN BE HAVING TWO HOMES RENTAL LIABILITY(REG6). THE L/LORD OR THE INSURER SHOULD PAY FOR THE ALTERNATIVE ACCOMMODATION WHILE THE CLAIMANT IS STILL PAYING FOR THE ORIGINAL ACCOMODATION. 😆
