Have a claim where the customer has recently had their tax credits terminated due to failing HRT. They have now, immediately following this made a claim for HB based on the fact they are self employed. On further investigation they state that they clean their friends and family homes. They don’t intend to do any advertising for further work as this takes uop as much time as they can spare due to child care issues.

What further information could we look at to determine if this customer is genuinely self employed?

Look at this as any other self-employed case as you normally would and forget the R2R bit for the moment. Are you satisfied they are self employed based on the regs? If the answer is no then no R2R, no HB/CTB as the conditions are not satisfied.
