    Scenario

A claimant is on I/S or JSA and they start work.
We are advised by the DWP that HBRO applies and the conditions satisfied.

Then, 3 weeks later they make a rapid reclaim.

It does mean that they did not work for 5 weeks or more.

Can you tell me what your authority does in these cases – ie would you make a gap in their claim and ask for evidence of their earnings for that period?
Or would you leave it as it is, from full eligible benefit to HBRO to full eligible benefit?

we would award the 4 week epp anyway and start the new claim periods from the monday after the epp ended.

providing the job was expected to last for more than 5 weeks when they started that is!

Same here – as long as the intention/ expectation that the job will last more than five weeks is there, and that is deemed to be reasonable, we would award the extended payment.

Provided that IS/JSA(IB) was re-awarded before the extended payment ended we would not (generally) seek evidence of wages etc.

Yes, we do the same here, but you know how it is. Every now and then you start questioning whether you’re doing it right.

    Most days, actually!
