Our finance department have just asked to estimate how much we think CTB expenditure will increase as a result of the introduction of pension credit.

Although we have the ‘ready reckoner’ in the Pension Credit handbook, this just estimates how much our case load will increase by – it doesn’t necessarily tell us how much expenditure on exisiting claims will increase, or on average how much benefit these new claims will receive..?

Is there anything out there that gives guidance on this? Surely other authorities must have carried out this sort of estimate…?

My view is that it would be very hard to predict, as a lot of it is going to depend on whether those claimants eligible for the savings credit claim it straight away, or delay claiming it until the middle of 2004.
