At last weeks roadshow in Birmingham the DWP confirmed a 5% reduction in visits and interventions for the current year, for all authorities.

Different story at the London Roadshow.

As far as I was aware, there is no target as such for interventions or visits next year as the respective Performance Measures are being scrapped. What we are getting is a new Performance Measure setting out the number of “Benefit Reductions” to be achieved throughout the year.

Preliminary targets were given out at the time to be confirmed later. My understanding is that visits and interventions will still play a role but will not be the driver behind this new PM. Theoretically, you could meet the PM just by the punters coming in and telling us of all their changes. 🙂

Yes, we were told much the same at Birmingham. The 5% reduction relates to the current interventions scheme for the current year.
Next years reductions in benefit target is based on the numbers of benefit reductions achieved in 2005/6 increased by around 20%. They got the figures from last years monthly scans. What peeved me was the fact there is no money being made available to help with the costs of introducing the new scheme.

Has anyone seen written confirmation of this reduction from the DWP? If so, can you guide me to it please.

At the recent Manchester roadshow we were informed that the total number of interventions for 06/07 had reduced from 50% to 45% of live case load and the number of visits had reduced from 20% to 15%.

I think A20/06, a circular that was currently at the draft stage, was mentioned, so the reductions could be in there??
