What do you do out there when faced with an intervention that results in no change to the award? Send a letter saying thanks for the info but there’s no change, send nothing as there’s nothing to make a new decision on, or be forced by the system to recalc and issue the resultant letter saying benefit has not changed?

    Thoughts gratefully received.

We send a letter saying “From the details you have given me there has been no change in your circumstances” etc.

My only worry from what jmembery said is whether a claimant then get appeal rights against the assessment.

Here, we don’t send anything as there’s been no change.

Thanks Martin, but how does the claimant know there’s no change?

… because if there had been a change they would have been notified.

    (and yes, I know it’s not perfect 😳 )

Can’t find it, but is there a requirement to issue a notification to the claimant following a review on an in claim check? How else does the claimant know the LA has even received the intervention form?

In any case, I think, sending a notification would be good practice.

Do I know what I'm doing? The jury's out on that........................

We checked this out with the DWP a couple of years ago because our software supplier at that time was insisting that we enter “no change” results on the system and produce a benefit award letter. DWP advice said there was no legal requirement to send a notice unless there was a change, but it would not be wrong if an individual LA decided to. We decided not send out notifications as a result of this advice and probably saved a few trees in the process.

We do not send a notification letter but we do send a letter thanking them for providing the information and reminding them of their duty to report changes in the future etc.
