Hi i’ve just heard that the NFI is collating personal details (including bank details) regarding council employees for the purposes of data matching. Is this correct? Could raise a lot of concerns, with such sensitive information.

We received a flyer with our payslips last month advising the same.

Not sure I’m too concerned, why should we be any different to the millions on benefit that are already data matched? 😕

A few of our employees (especially those who have no connection to benefits) are a concerned that they’re bank details can be given to a third party with-out their consent.

One employee heard a rumour that the NFI posted the Job Centres Staff’s payroll on the web. Don’t know whether this is true or not.

Payroll here inform me that only start dates, hours worked, rates etc are provided – they assure me that bank details are not (and will not ) be passed on to any other organisation.

Spoke to our fraud deaprtment and they have told me it’s mandatory. They’ve requested sort codes and bank account numbers.

If you can get hold of the NFI 2006/2007 handbook, table 9 shows the exact data specification for the payroll dataset – which does include bank account details. As part of the Code of Data Matching Practice all employees must be informed that their data is being submitted to NFI by way of a fair processing notice.

Working for the Council doesn’t make people honest! You might be surprised at the results…
