I’m dealing an ex serviceman who was born in 1928. He has been diagnosed with Melanoma attributable to his service and has been awarded a one off “gratuity, lump sum payment”. The amount is only £2300, but when added to other capital would affect entitlement if I have to include it as additional capital. Does anyone know whether this must be disregarded as per certain other war/service related payments please?

    Many thanks.

dwp guidance manual states lump sum gratuities under the war pension and industrial injury schemes are classed as personal injury payments . does it fall under this ?

    see p1.160 in link below
