    What is a pre-assessment team?

I agree with Melvin – a Pre-Assessment team could cover a lot of duties. We have one but I suspect that the work we do is more limited than that of other LA’s (don’t write out for missing proofs for instance).

    Melvin,

I assume it’s what we had in the good old days (called clerical assistants) where the info was gathered before passing to assess. And no, we don’t have one in Wolverhampton.

Do I know what I'm doing? The jury's out on that........................

WE had a pre-assessment team but following a review they have been divvied out beteween teams now which are made up of revs and bens staff. It is not generice but “co” working.

This has only just been put into place so we do not know how it is going to work out at the mo.

And the op “team” has been reduced to one – thats me.

Our pre-assessment team send out postal checks and gather the evidence, any changes get dealt with by assessors. They have other miscellaneous duties but aren’t really justified, VFing was taken away from them after work being duplicated and its happening again with the postal checks.
What do other councils pre-assessment teams do? 😕

We did have a pre assessment team (VF) but dont anymore.

All stuff sent to assessors was being checked again and so it was just a case of double handling of claims and a waste of time in my opinion.

We have a slightly differnt approach. Rather than having a pre-assessment team, we use Customer Service Advisors to initially write out for any information / proof needed, as they log the post. It is then passed to the assessor to process as normal.

We had a pre-assessment team but changed it when we re-structured. Had exactly the same problem as Neilfay, the assessors didn’t trust what the pre-assessment staff had done and went through everything in such depth they may as well have had the claim from scratch in the first place -bless ’em!
