I have been tasked with arranging a forum for Private Landlords within our borough and wonder whether anyone has previous experience of setting up such an event. I am particulary interested in the topics covered, any outside speakers and any feedback received.

    Any help gratefully received.

I’ve tried to set up a private landlords forum without success. In my authority they have shown no interest whatsoever.

If anyone has any tips on how to get them interested I’d be grateful.

I have hosted several landlord forums, I split them between RSL’s and private L/L’s as I found they were interested in different topics. The RSL forum has always been quite popular and I use it as a liaison meeting as well as a forum, to give them details on new legislation etc. The last forum I held I invited our local Pension Service Liaison Officer who spoke to the RSL’s about Pension credit etc.
The private landlord forum as never been that successful, the only way I have found to get landlords to come is to do a joint forum with our housing aid section

Hope this is of some use

If someone in your authority is responsible for providing grants than get them to do a talk around the subject of free money.

that should catch their eye if you word it carefully

We’d also be interested as we are in the process of setting up a Landlord’s Forum. Please send e-mails to janet.davies@merthyr.gov.uk

having helped the housing aid centre restart the private landlords forum a couple of times the private landlord forum has been dormant for a while de to lack of interst from landlords

we are looking at hosting an online virtual message board forum instead.

The RSL forum meets quarterly and is well attended. The chair is someone from a large Housing Association and she is very committed to the sucess of the forum.
