    Hi All,
There has been significant reduction in LHA rates for Crawley area. Since August 09 rates have been consistently sliding down. Compared with previous 12 months rates for 1 bed accom is -7.95% and for 2bed properties -6.51%. This means claimants have to find £12.02 pwk to make up the shortfall. A family in 4 bed accom will have to find £52.09 pwk.

This has meant everyone is applying for DHP’s. I have already spent nearly double the amount given by DWP.

What’s everyone else doing? Have the LHA rates decreased in your area?

    Hi Ash,
we are having the same problem here. We just carry on with the comparing income/expenditure/looking at lifestyle/size of property, unforeseen circumstances etc. route. We don’t automatically grant it because the LHA has gone down. We’re not very popular though as a lot of claimants think we set the LHA rate, no matter how many times we explain. 🙄

Edit: Sorry, just realised this is an old post, but hey it’s probably even more relevant today.

I’ve noticed the same in the Cherwell DC area, especially for the shared room rate. I contacted the Valuation Agency for an explanation and have never had a reply.
