We’re about to undertake a long overdue archiving excercise and just wondered what others were doing regarding deleting data from their systems. Are you permanently deleting data older than 7 years or archiving? Is any data deleted permanently?

    Thanks

You obviously don’t have Northgate because we have not had an archiving facility since 1993! In my view the only data you can get rid of is claims which have been out of payment/never been paid for more than six years. Any data attached to LIVE claims, however old, has to stay where it supports the payments you have made (so claim forms, payment history etc but you could ditch notification letters, file notes). Archiving is a different facility where you are just storing it somewhere else (I presume in a ZIP file)

What I’d like to do is permanently delete all batch programs and bills issued/notificaitons sent over 7 years old. I think I’m OK in doing this but would be happier to know that someone else has done it too!
