    Hi,

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
I have a Housing Association that runs a hostel generally occupied by single males with alcohol or drug problems.
They are asking about whether a service charge would be eligible for HB or not, the proposal is for a new CCTV system to replace the old one (currently eligible for HB by discretion) as the old one is very poor.
The new system would cost the tenants £4.00per week, any suggestions?
    Thanks

The latest DWP advice is that CCTV could be eligible if it is there to ensure the security of the building, but not if it is for the securtity of the tenants.

I belive this superceeds the previous advice that it was never eligible.

    😀 Thanks very much Jeff.
I am struggling to find anything about CCTV in any guidance, have you any idea where this may be mentioned as looked on DWP website but I can’t find it.
    Thanks

Nothing that straightforward I am afraid.

First you need to look at Junderwo’s posting in the earlier discussion, where the DWPs then view on CCTV (I.E that it a security charge and therefore not eligible) is stated.

then you need to read A22/2008 and look at the guidance on Security charges to see the amended view.
