Shared ownership no rent liability

    I have a claim from a 55 year old man who has entered into a shared ownership lease with an RSL, under the elderly leasehold scheme. He has a lease for 99 years on 75% of the market value of the property.

    He doesn’t pay any ground rent but he pays a weekly service charge, can he claim HB on just service charges. 😡

    I think the link to the post was created before HBInfo migrated to a different forum, consequently the link is the threads address in the old environment rather than the new.

    Otherwise, for me, as long as you are satisfied that the service charges would be recognised by Reg 12 as "rent" it doesn't matter that the are service charges (unless later determined to be ineligible).  These aren't even conditional on the rent being for shared ownership.
