Start date of student income

    I’m having another one of those benefit-related confused moments.

    The student regs state how to “apportion” student income, from first benefit week in the period of study etc.

    However, if superseding an existing award, from what date is the change of circs effective?

    EG Period of study this year started from 4/9/05, so student income is “apportioned” starting from this date. But should an existing benefit award change from then, or from the following benefit week?

    I have an appeal on my desk from a student who is disputing an overpayment as a result of 2006 student income change. We use Northgate and have put the change of circs in from 4/9/06 and HB entitlement is revised from 11/9/06. That does seem to be right to me.
