    I am planning training on eligibility for HB & will cover eligible students. I know that students who would qualify for a DP can claim, as can students on ESA(IR). But what about a student on ESA(C) who would qualify for a component? Are they eligible? I cannot find any reference to this in the Guidance Manual.

    There is no equivalent to the DP/SDP route for FT students (that is, WRAC and SC were not added to HB Reg 56(2)(c) when ESA came in).

    However, FT students on ESA(C) and ESA(Credits Only) can still qualify via HB Reg 56 (2)(ea):-

    “(ea) who has, or is treated as having, limited capability for work and has had, or been treated as having, limited capability for work in accordance with the Employment and Support Allowance Regulations for a continuous period of not less than 196 days, and for this purpose any two or more separate periods separated by a break of not more than 84 days must be treated as one continuous period.”
