Has anyone seen the new rates for student loans, grants & disregards for 2006/7 yet?

We usually receive a DWP circular mid-August at the latest but I can’t recall receiving anything this year.

The only information I have seen was in this earlier thread.

We haven’t received anything directly from the DWP

I queried this with the DWP yesterday – reply below

[i:cd43cf489f]We are currently in the process of issuing the circular. We follow the IS/JSA bulletin which has only just been released and we had to make a few amendments but hopefully it will be with LAs in a few days. We are sorry for the delay on this one.[/i:cd43cf489f]

    [i:78ba3ce895]’…only just been released…'[/i:78ba3ce895]

This was issued some time in July:

Does more than a month ago count as ‘only just’?

It’s A15/2006 – hot of the press (what a dated expression that seems now!)

The new Special Support Grant includes the costs of travel, books and equipment. This might sound a bit dim, but I assume we therefore do not apply the usual book and travel disregards to any other student income the student may receive?

I know I’m going to get asked this question by the assessors.

I haven’t seen the circular yet (only the DWP briefing note), but I would imagine you would still take the ‘ordinary’ books and equipment disregard off the basic loan (or bursary, as the case may be) – after all, the Higher Education Grant introduced in 2005/05 included elements for books and equipment, and we still used the ‘ordinary’ disregard, too.

And, unless there is an amendment to Reg 59, I don’t see how we would be empowered [i:d4c77d7d2a]not[/i:d4c77d7d2a] to apply the ‘ordinary’ disregards.
