War Widows Pension

    Have been reading through guidance I received regarding the pre 1973 element of war widows pension. It is my undertanding that we can disregard this in full without applying any local scheme and collect full subsidy on this.

    In the guidance i have received however it appears that if the claimant is over 60 we can only disregard the first £10.00 so if our local scheme disregards the full amount we will loose out on subsidy.

    Can anyone confirm whether this should be disregarded in full if the claimant is over 60.

    I don’t know what guidance you’ve seen but it sounds wrong to me. I ain’t 100% certain but the disregard in the HB Working Age regs is in Sch 5 para 55. This appears to be mirrored in the HB Pensioner regs too at Sch 5 para 6. So I can’t see where the difference could be.
