This is in paragraph 1 of the briefing notes in the link above:

‘… we have engaged with stakeholders and customers of the current benefit system on the choices that need to be made. We are committed to continuing this consultative approach.’

I’m not sure I can bear to read any more.

Maybe I’m missing something but if 2.7m are going to receive more through UC and existing claimants will be protected, where are the savings?

Also where are the incentives for claimants who have been out of work for most of their lives to get jobs if they are going to see no change to the amount of benefit they receive?

It was always going to cost more and in fairness to IDS (not something I thought I’d ever write) that was set out clearly even before the last election. That is why the Treasury never wanted the plan in the first place, but politically they didn’t want IDS outside the Government so they went ahead with it by Cameron over ruling the treasury

The savings will be made through the administration of it all – no more admin grant to LAs for a start, on – line claims by 80% of the claimant population, no more HMRC staff paying tax credits etc, etc

So, no need to worry then. DWP will listen to the concerns of stakeholder’s and clmt’s then come to the conclusion that they already have reached…

And more welfare benefit paid to HMRC and LA staff who previously administered Tax credits and HB.
